After 4 years of extensive reconstruction and expansion by British star architect Norman Foster, the Municipal Lenbachhaus Gallery, former seat of the great painter Franz von Lenbach, was spectacularly reopened on May 8, 2013. Generous expansion space in the "Golden Cube" and the new circulation through state-of-the-art gallery rooms with pioneering LED lighting provide an ideal environment for the display of the unique "Der Blaue Reiter" (Blue Rider) paintings and the other collections of the museum. The Kunstbau Lenbachhaus continues showing a series of contemporary art exhibitions.
Since 2009 the Brandhorst Museum impressively rounds off the Munich Museum Complex (Kunstareal). The impressive building designed by architects Sauerbruch/Hutton shows not only paintings, sculptures and installations but also illustrations and other work on paper, amongst them 112 original edition of books illustrated by Pablo Picasso. We would love to introduce you to this striking collection of contemporary art which starts from the later part of the 20th century with works by Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, Josef Beuys and many others.
